CA1CRT01 – Computer Fundamentals and Digital Principles (Answer Key)

Total: 40 marks                                                           Time: 1.5  hours

 

Section A

Answer any 5 questions. Each question carries 2 marks.

1. RAM is volatile memory that temporarily stores the files you are working on. ROM is non-volatile memory that permanently stores instructions for your computer.

2. The main difference between System software and Application Software is that System Software is used for operating computer hardware whereas Application software is used according to user applications.

3. Software is the programs that are needed to accomplish the input, processing, output, storage, and control activities of information systems.

4. A network operating system (NOS) is an OS that is designed to run on a network server dedicated to providing various services to other computers on the network. The “other” computers are called client computers

5. A graphical user interface (GUI) is a digital interface in which a user interacts with graphical components such as icons, buttons, and menus.

6. DOS is a single-user character-based (Command Line Interface) operating system, while Windows is a multiuser, graphical user-interface based operating system.

Answer any 3 questions. Each question carries 5 marks.

7. Expand Functional units: Input unit, CPU & Output unit with neat diagram

8.  Write a point or two on monitor & Expand on CRT & Flat monitors with diagrams

9. Explain on types of Computer Networks: LAN, WAN, CAN, and MAN & HAN

10. Expand on 4 types of OS: Real-time operating system, Single-user/Single-tasking operating system, Single-User/Multitasking Operating Systems & Multi-User/Multitasking OS

                 (3 x 5 = 15 Marks)

 

Section C

Answer any 1 question. The question carries 15 marks

11.  Write a point or two on Printers. Write on two categories of printers: Impact & non-impact printers. Expand on Dot Matrix Printer, Line Printer, Band Printer, Inkjet Printer & Laser Printer

12. The working of internet should contain an expansion of key terms: IP Address, DNS & Browser with neat diagrams. Also, expansion on Features: Accessibility, Easy to Use, Interaction with Other Media, Low Cost, Extension of Existing IT Technology, Flexibility of Communication, Security
